The Institute was founded in 1975 by Dr. Robert Frager. A Harvard graduate himself, Frager had experienced first-hand the conventional approach to the study of psychology, and found it lacking and often fragmented. Dr. Frager's educational ideal hearkened back to the ancient Greek system which held the belief that education should take into account all aspects of the human experience. With this ideal in mind, he set out to create a school of psychology that would fully prepare psychologists to understand human nature from an approach that transcends the pathological and encompasses the whole human being in the context of culture, physical health and mental health.

California Institute of Integral Studies is an accredited institution of higher education that strives to embody spirit, intellect, and wisdom in service to individuals, communities and the Earth.  The Institute expands the boundaries of traditional degree programs with interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, and applied studies in psychology, philosophy, religion, cultural anthropology, transformative learning and leadership, integrative health, and the arts.  Offering a personal learning environment and supportive community, CIIS provides an extraordinary education for people committed to transforming themselves and the world.

In the summer of 1997, a group of philanthropists approached Ken Wilber with an offer of substantial funds to start an organization that would advance more comprehensive and integrated approaches to the world's increasingly complex problems. Wilber invited some 400 of the world's leading integral thinkers to gather together for a series of meetings at his home in Boulder, Colorado. Joe Firmage, who was invited to several of these meetings, announced that "there is nothing anywhere in the world that is doing what Integral Institute is doing," and then promptly donated a million dollars in cash. With that donation, Integral Institute was formally launched. It was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1998.

The Esalen Institute was founded in 1962 as an alternative educational center devoted to the exploration of what Aldous Huxley called the "human potential," the world of unrealized human capacities that lies beyond the imagination. Esalen soon became known for its blend of East/West philosophies, its experiential/didactic workshops, the steady influx of philosophers, psychologists, artists, and religious thinkers, and its breathtaking grounds blessed with natural hot springs. Once home to a Native American tribe known as the Essalen, Esalen is situated on 27 acres of spectacular Big Sur coastline with the Santa Lucia Mountains rising sharply behind.

The School of Holistic Studies is one of a very few places in the country where you can study health education, counseling, art and the exciting new fields of consciousness studies and integral psychology, holistically that is through the mind, body and spirit. John F. Kennedy University is a leader in holistic studies education, attracting students committed to personal and global transformation. We are a nonprofit membership organization located in Northern California that conducts and sponsors leading-edge research into the potentials and powers of consciousness—including perceptions, beliefs, attention, intention, and intuition. The institute explores phenomena that do not necessarily fit conventional scientific models, while maintaining a commitment to scientific rigor. The institute is not a spiritual association, political-action group, or a single-cause institute. Rather, we honor open-minded approaches and multiple ways of knowing, bring discernment to our work, and support diversity of perspectives on social and scientific matters.

The Center for Consciousness Studies at the University of Arizona was formed in 1998 with a seed grant from the Fetzer Institute. The Center is a unique institution whose aim is to bring together the perspectives of philosophy, the cognitive sciences, neuroscience, the social sciences, medicine, and the physical sciences, the arts and humanities, to move toward an integrated understanding of human consciousness. The Center is unique in its broad spectrum approach. Other groups tend focus either on cognitive neuroscience, philosophy or purely phenomenal experiential approaches, whereas the Center not only integrates these areas, but "thinks outside the box" of conventional wisdom which has thus far, at least, failed to make significant breakthroughs. The Center has also inspired other groups such as the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness and those who organize other conferences.

The Monroe Institute® is a non-profit 501(c) (3) educational and research organization dedicated to the exploration of human consciousness, and is internationally known for its work with audio sound patterns that can have dramatic effects on states of consciousness. This patented audio-guidance technology is known as Hemi-Sync. The Monroe Institute is devoted to the premise that focused consciousness contains definitive solutions to the major issues of human experience. Greater understanding of such consciousness can be achieved through coordinated research efforts using an interdisciplinary approach. GTT is a program for experiencing and studying Holotropic Breathwork and the transpersonal perspective. It is a two-track program that can be used either to become a certified practitioner or simply to experience this practice in a more in-depth format. It is the best way to spend time with HB co-developer and one of the founders of transpersonal psychology, Stanislav Grof.  Although semi-retired, Stan still teaches at some of the modules.  The rest are led by GTT director Tav Sparks and a carefully selected teaching and facilitating staff.   Modules may also have guest faculty who are leaders in the transpersonal and related fields. Past guest teachers have included Jack Kornfield, Angeles Arrien, Andrew Harvey, Richard Tarnas, and others.

Atlantic University offers a graduate program in transpersonal studies that is designed specifically for adults interested in exploring life and themselves, using innovative learning methods. This program is unique in that it introduces the student to the multiple dimensions of holistic living and encourages the process of personal growth. The degree program is available as a distance-learning program with limited, optional residential studies available. Atlantic University is an accredited graduate-level institution of higher education open to all qualified students.
